Concluding calendar week we looked at some unproblematic 3D tools get y'all started in 3D. This week I'one thousand talking you lot through some of the more avant-garde techniques you lot can utilize to model a kitchen. Follow forth to learn BricsCAD and take your CAD drawing to the adjacent level.

Making the cupboards
I created the cupboards using Extrude and Multislice. I then added closet doors using Extrude and Array. 3D CAD drawing is very much similar 2D CAD drawing, so don't exist nervous!
To make the cupboards:
- Kickoff by extruding the basic shape from the original line drawing, much as we did with the walls in week one.
- Then use the SLICE – Multislice tool to extract the edge of the cupboard and divided the counter into cupboards.

For this example I wanted all my cupboards to be the aforementioned width, so I chose the Repeat option and set my distance to 660.Split a solid entity into multiple entities chop-chop using Multi-Slice.

- Use the Get-go control to extract the edge of the door.
- Then employ EXTRUDE – create .
- Repeat until yous are happy with the design.

The next thing to address was the countertop. I accidentally deleted the outline when I extruded the closet earlier so I redrew the edges with polylines, then extruded.

Tip: During a drawing control, hit Shift when hovering over the face of an object. This will fix the cartoon aeroplane to that face for the duration of the control. The selected face up will be highlighted in bluish. It works on flat and rounded faces. Read more than.Hit shift during a command to set up the drawing plane. - Select the polyline and use EXTRUDE – create to build the piece of work surface.
The Stovetop and Sink
At this point, I imported the .dwg files for the stovetop and the sink. And so I cut holes in the work surface. I didn't make these parts in BricsCAD, as they are parts that are going to come directly from a supplier. (You could make parts yourself using the commands nosotros have already covered.)
To do this:
- Become to File – Import .
Tip: If y'all download the Communicator for BricsCAD, you lot can import a wide number of file types, including .stp. - Extract the edges of the objects using Excerpt – Edges .
- Then Showtime the border if the object
- Finally, apply EXTRUDE to place holes in the countertop.
Calculation details
At this stage, I noticed that the stovetop cupboard needed drawers, not a door. I exploded the assortment, deleted one of the doors, used Multislice and created the drawer fronts using the aforementioned technique as the closet doors.
To do this:
- EXPLODE the assortment.
- Delete the surplus door.
- Use Multi-Slice to dissever the cupboard up into drawers.
This time I split the solid unevenly. - Create the drawer fronts (see instructions for the cupboard doors).
Utilize Multi-slice to divide the closet into different drawer widths.
Shelving
For the last cupboard I wanted to create an open shelving unit of measurement. I shelled the solid, and then extracted the surface and extruded shelves from this surface.
To do this:
- Begin with the command SOLIDEDIT – Solid Trounce .
- Select the face to be removed.
- Gear up the shell distance.
- Excerpt the surface of the inside of the cupboard using XFACES.
This works just similar the Extract Edges command nosotros covered last week, simply it extracts faces instead. - Elevate the surface to the correct elevation and extrude.
- Use Boolean Union (UNION) to join the parts together.
I used a similar technique to create the vino rack on the other side. Withal, this time I used ARRAY. You might non realize it, but ARRAY also works vertically.
The settings were: Assortment – Rectangular and Rows and Columns – one, Levels – iv.
Finishing up
Finally, I extended the countertop using EXTRUDE.
Tip: If your objects starts joining back together be sure to check to see which mode you lot are using when extracting.
The last detail was to create the cupboards higher up the countertop. It was a simple case of copying one of the cupboards already created, editing the width and moving it to the correct position. I used ARRAY to repeat the cupboard along the wall.
I added a few details and the kitchen was complete. I'm not sure about the color, but don't worry, that'due south only the layer color! We'll be covering materials and rendering at a afterwards date.
